IRC Voice & actress on @GothamonFox and @DeadpoolMovie, @MorenaBaccarin recently met Venezuelan refugee mothers during her recent trip with IRC to Colombia, where more than one million Venezuelans have sought safety in the greatest refugee crisis in the history of Latin America. Here are some of their stories. #StandWithRefugees
"Every child has their own dream: they hope they will lead a better life than the one they’ve left behind.” These were words told to us at an IRC Safe Zone in Greece, where our staff cares for unaccompanied children thanks to support from @EU_echo. Many refugee children living in this Safe Zone arrived in Greece alone. “When the children first arrive at the Safe Zone they are often distant and angry. But as time goes on, I see them transform like butterflies,” Ketty, an IRC support worker told us. Ketty (in picture three) takes care of the children and makes sure they have everything they need. Our Safe Zones provide children with 24/7 care and shelter and children decorate their living spaces themselves. Greece currently hosts around 67,000 refugees and asylum-seekers, and IRC offers them protection, psychological support and job training. 👉 Swipe for images from life in the Safe Zone and visit Rescue.org to learn more about our work on the ground. #StandWithRefugees
“I’m really happy Steven will grow up in America. He will be educated and smart. He can live his life with freedom and a good future.” Adil, a refugee from Iraq who escaped ISIS, was reunited with 13 family members in Seattle after the travel ban was temporarily blocked in 2017. At IRC, we'll continue to stand for refugee resettlement, stand for welcome and #StandWithRefugees— no matter what. Join us if you agree. Visit ways to make #RefugeesWelcome on Rescue.org.
"I am determined, courageous; I am beautiful. I am the youngest of six, living at home with my mother and siblings. I will be a secretary working for the state and for the public." Anourite, from the Democratic Republic of Congo, dreams of helping women like her mother who have families by giving them advice and helping them generate income. Double-tap if you believe every girl like Anourite should dream big. 💛
Refugees are people whose lives you would recognize. They're mothers, fathers, daughters, sons who have escaped violence and persecution. They're the most vulnerable people in the world. Here's to a compassionate 2019.
One of our favorite #RefugeesWelcome moments from 2018, when Robert and Esther, Congolese refugees resettled to the U.S., bought their first home! The family arrived in Phoenix in 2016 and have worked hard to save for this purchase. Proof that, when given a chance, refugees thrive.
Making #RefugeesWelcome: our motto. Since 1933. On this throwback Thursday, a photo from 1951 of the IRC’s "Freedom Train.” Czech refugees on their way to being resettled by the IRC in North America. Visit Rescue.org to learn more about our 85+ year history! 🙌 #StandWithRefugees
#HappyHolidays from our IRC family to yours. 💛 Thank you for standing with us once again this year—and with the many displaced families caught in crisis around the world. We are grateful for supporters like you who make our work around the world possible. Thank you for making #RefugeesWelcome, wherever they are! | #MerryChristmas #StandWithRefugees
